Back and Side Sets From “The Tree” Now Available

In 1985 I happened across an article in Fine Woodworking magazine about some incredible quilted Mahogany that came from a very large tree that grew in the Chicibul forest in Belize. After reading the article and seeing the pictures of a piece of furniture made from it I was sure I had seen the most incredibly figured wood that ever existed.

Over the years when speaking with other woodworkers or mill operators I had this habit of mentioning this wood in our conversations and directing them to find a copy of that magazine issue to see it. At that time I never dreamed I would ever even see any of this amazing material in person much less own any of it.

In 2010 when I formed Greener Lumber, LLC, little did I realize that my affinity for this Mahogany, (now known in the guitar world as “The Tree”), would come full circle. We have been truly humbled by many blessings bestowed upon us since the opening of Greener Lumber.

One of these blessings took place when we were introduced to a gentleman in Belize by the name of John Roberson in 2012. That relationship sparked an opportunity for us to purchase 3 large planks of this magical wood in 2021. COVID and all the havoc it wreaked created special challenges to get it to the US.

It has arrived and we portioned out enough material to create 15 gorgeous back and side sets and made them available at this year’s La Conner Guitar Festival in La Conner, Washington.

Greener Lumber’s Tone Wood Specialist, Bill Largent was there with these sets along with some Honduran Rosewood sets from our partnership with Indigenous Mayans in Southern Belize.Greener Lumber In Belize

If you attended La Conner it was hard to miss Bill and this amazing wood.

If you weren’t able to attend we now have these sets available for purchase in our Greener Lumber Online Store.
